Interest is computed on the minimum balance between 5th and end of month. A deposit after the 5th loses that entire month's interest on the deposited amount. Over 15 deposit years compounded into a 21-year corpus, this difference is significant. Deposit before April 5th every year for best returns.
SSY pays 8.20% p.a. vs PPF's 7.10%. But SSY continues earning interest for 6 years after deposits stop (years 16–21). This extra compounding phase is a powerful wealth multiplier — the corpus nearly doubles in those 6 silent years!
